Title: A Handbook of Sailing Barges by F. S. Cooper

Summary: A Handbook of Sailing Barges by F. S. Cooper is a concise but detailed guide to the traditional British sailing barge, especially the Thames sailing barge. First published in 1955 and illustrated by John Chancellor, the book surveys the history, design, construction, and operation of these distinctive working vessels. The book is best understood as a technical introduction and historical survey rather than a narrative history. Its strength lies in explaining how sailing barges were built and operated, making it a valuable reference for maritime historians, traditional sailing enthusiasts, model makers, and anyone interested in Britain's coastal trading vessels. Despite its modest length, it is widely regarded as a classic handbook on the subject
