Title: An Ideal Friend by Madeleine Riley.

Summary:  The essay explores what truly makes a good or “ideal” friend. Madeleine Riley argues that friendship isn’t about perfection, constant agreement, or always saying the right thing. Instead, an ideal friend is someone who is genuine, supportive, and honest.

She emphasizes that real friends accept each other’s flaws and differences. They don’t try to change one another but instead offer understanding and encouragement. An ideal friend listens without judgment, stands by you during difficult times, and celebrates your successes without jealousy.

Riley also highlights the importance of honesty in friendship. A true friend will tell you the truth even when it’s uncomfortable because they care about your well-being. At the same time, kindness and empathy are essential, as honesty should never be harsh or hurtful.
