Title: Anglo Saxon Lincolnshire by Peter Sawyer. History of Lincolnshire Vol III

Summary: Anglo-Saxon Lincolnshire traces the history of Lincolnshire from the end of Roman Britain in the fifth century to the Norman Conquest. Rather than simply recounting political events, Sawyer examines how archaeology, place names, charters, coins, and written records reveal the development of the county's society, economy, religion, and government. The book is regarded as one of the standard histories of Anglo-Saxon Lincolnshire. It combines documentary evidence with archaeology to explain how the county evolved from several small kingdoms into one of the wealthiest and most important regions of pre-Conquest England.
