Title: Catalogue of the Manuscripts of Lincoln Cathedral Chapter Library by Reginald Maxwell Woolley

Language: English. Latin

Summary: Reginald Maxwell Woolley’s Catalogue of the Manuscripts of Lincoln Cathedral Chapter Library is a scholarly descriptive catalogue of the medieval and later manuscripts preserved in the library of Lincoln Cathedral. Published in 1927, it was the first modern, systematic inventory of the cathedral's manuscript holdings and remains an important source for the study of English cathedral libraries and medieval book culture. The catalogue demonstrates that Lincoln Cathedral possessed one of the most significant surviving medieval cathedral libraries in England. By preserving and publishing the early catalogues, Woolley provided evidence for the intellectual life of the cathedral from the twelfth century onward, showing what books were available to clergy and scholars and how the collection evolved over time.
