Title: Church and Society in Medieval Lincolnshire by Dorothy M. Owen. History of Lincolnshire Vol V

Summary: Dorothy M. Owen's Church and Society in Medieval Lincolnshire is the first comprehensive study of the relationship between the medieval Church and the people of Lincolnshire. Rather than focusing solely on religious institutions, Owen examines how the Church shaped everyday social, political, and economic life across the county from the Norman Conquest to the Reformation. The book remains an important starting point for studying medieval religion in Lincolnshire because it combines archival evidence with social history. Owen uses parish records, bishops' registers, wills, ecclesiastical court records, and monastic documents to show how religion influenced every aspect of medieval life. Although later scholarship has expanded on some areas, historians continue to regard it as the standard general survey of medieval religious history in Lincolnshire.
