VINTAGESTAN BOOKS

Title: De Ouwe Werf. Van Crnelis Smit tot Cornelis Verolme 1812 to 2005

Language: Dutch

Summary: The book is very detailed: besides the historical narrative of the yard and its owners, it includes every ship built on the yard (with descriptions) in its later pages.

It illustrates how a local ship-yard evolved from wooden sailing ships to large modern steel ships, reflecting broader industrial and economic shifts in the Netherlands.

It also shows the decline of Dutch ship-building in the late 20th century, and how industrial sites are repurposed (here into housing) when the original industry disappears.

It places family business dynamics, ownership changes, technological adaptation and market pressures in one focussed case-study.
