Title: Horley. Pageant of a Wealden Parish by W.H. Chouler

Summary: Horley: Pageant of a Wealden Parish is a local history book that presents the story of Horley, a Wealden parish in Surrey. Written by William Hurst Chouler, it uses a “pageant” format, telling the history through a sequence of scenes or episodes representing different periods in the parish’s development.

The book traces the development of Horley from early settlement to the modern town, showing how geography, agriculture, religion, and transport shaped the parish. It focuses on the character of a Wealden community, a rural settlement formed in the wooded clay landscape of the Weald.
