Title: Luggage Labels from the great age of Shipping

Summary: “Luggage Labels from the Great Age of Shipping” explores the colourful and often beautifully designed labels that were attached to passengers’ luggage during the golden age of ocean travel, particularly from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.

These labels were used by luxury hotels, railways, airlines and ocean liners to advertise destinations and prestigious travel experiences. Shipping companies such as Cunard, White Star Line and others produced distinctive labels featuring their ships, ports and exotic destinations.

The labels were more than practical baggage tags. Their bold artwork, typography and imagery captured the glamour and excitement of international travel. They promoted famous ships, luxurious accommodations and destinations around the world, while also serving as souvenirs of a passenger's journey.

Today they provide a fascinating glimpse into the development of tourism, advertising, graphic design and passenger shipping during the great age of ocean liners.
