Title: Mappa Mundi Herefords Curious Map by Sarah Arrowsmith

Summary: This book is a short, illustrated guide that helps modern readers understand the famous medieval world map kept at Hereford Cathedral.

The book explains the Hereford Mappa Mundi, a large map created around 1300, not as a geographical tool but as a religious and symbolic representation of the world. Arrowsmith shows that the map reflects a God-centred medieval worldview, rather than accurate geography. Jerusalem sits at the centre, and east (the direction of Eden). The author’s central message is that the Mappa Mundi is not a map of physical reality, but a window into how medieval Europeans understood the world spiritually, culturally, and imaginatively.
