Title: Merchant Marine Officers Handbook by William B. Hayler

Summary: Originally published in 1942 and revised over many editions, the Merchant Marine Officers’ Handbook is a comprehensive reference and study guide for merchant marine officers (deck and engineering) and maritime students.

It is often described as a “hawsepiper’s” handbook useful both for seafarers working their way up through sea time (without formal academy training) and for candidates preparing for licensing exams.

The handbook covers a broad spectrum of topics relevant to ship operation, navigation, engineering, safety, regulation, and professional practice.
