VINTAGESTAN EPHEMERA Title: SS Ile de France Menu card for 12 September 1937 Language: French and English Summary: SS Ile de France was a luxury ocean liner, she was delivered by shipbuilder Chantiers de Penhoët in 1927. Designed in the Art Deco style of the 1930s. The ship became so popular that by 1935, she had carried more first-class passengers than any other transatlantic liner. Ile de France served as a troopship during World War 2. She was returned to her owners where she undertook a refit and her profile was altered inside and out. One of her three funnels was removed and the other two streamlined. She returned to passenger service. On the 26 July 1956 she responded to the collision between SS Andrea Doria and MS Stockholm where she assisted in the rescue of passengers and crew. In total she rescued 753 survivors. With the decline of the transatlantic traffic she was sold for dismantling and departed Le Havre on the 16 February 1959 for dismantling in Japan.
