Title: Stow Church Restored 1846 – 1866 by Mark Spurrell. Lincoln Record Society Volume 75

Summary: This is a documentary history of the Victorian restoration of Stow Minster (formerly St Mary's Church), one of England's most important Anglo-Saxon churches. Published by the Lincoln Record Society in 1984, the book brings together letters, reports, accounts, and other primary sources relating to the church's restoration between 1846 and 1866. The restoration of Stow Church is often seen as an early and influential example of Victorian church conservation. It helped save one of England's most significant medieval churches and contributed to the wider movement for preserving historic buildings rather than replacing them. The campaign demonstrated changing Victorian attitudes toward architectural heritage and ecclesiastical restoration.
