Title: Strandings and their Causes by Captain R. A. Cahill

Summary: Classic maritime safety book on why ships run aground and what lessons mariners can draw from real incidents. By use of real incidents to illustrate each type of incident. The sequences, decisions, oversights, and failures that led to each stranding. Diagrams, narrative analysis, and critical commentary help readers understand not just what happened but why, and how it could have been prevented.

Cahill’s goal is not to catalogue accidents for curiosity’s sake but to provide a learning tool for mariners: to recognise dangerous patterns, reinforce best practices, and improve navigational judgement to avoid repeating mistakes seen in others
